Naturalist and marine biologist, he holds both a degree and a PhD focused on the study of hard-bottom benthic communities, with particular emphasis on polychaete and crustacean fauna. For more than twenty years, he has worked on mesozooplankton, specialising in the taxonomy and ecology of meroplankton and ichthyoplankton.
A founding member of Pelagosphera, , he's an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology of the University of Turin , teaching first Systematic Zoology of Invertebrates and subsequently Marine Biology. Certified for over thirty years and scientific diver, he has participated in several international research projects, including studies on coral bleaching in Bangka, Indonesia, and the effects of the tsunami on coral reef communities in Khao Lak and Phuket, Thailand.
