EAMM
The EAMMProject, Mediterranean Marine Environmental Education, is an educational programme designed by Pelagosphera to deepen knowledge of theMediterranean marine environment. EAMM offers the opportunity to engage with the complexity of the marine world in a clear and immediate way, through concrete examples and the analysis of the main processes that influence plant and animal biodiversity, showing how biodiversity represents an invaluable biological, ecological and cultural heritage to be conserved and protected.
The programme also takes a close look at dynamics linked to the climate crisis and to future scenarios in which the Mediterranean Sea is one of the main recipients of a change that promises to be epochal.
PROJECT STRUCTURE:
– Two classroomm meetings of two hours each provide the theoretical foundations needed to understand the basics of marine biology andecology di base
In the first meeting , we analyse the ecological categories into which marine organisms can be divided. We address biodiversity and the extraordinary variety of living forms that populate the Mediterranean.
In the second meeting , we focus on the subdivision of the marine environment through the vertical zonation system developed by Pérès and Picard, pioneers of marine biology. Through their work, we explore how organisms are distributed in the marine environment under the influence of chemical and physical parameters that select and shape their life cycles.
At the end of each meeting, we put the theoretical knowledge into practice using part of Pelagosphera's educational collection , also used in invertebrate zoology courses for Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences at the University of Turin.

We will spend a full day in Noli, a seaside town in the province of Savona and an ideal setting in which to conclude the Mediterranean Marine Environmental Education experience.
Students will take part in the guided observation of live samples collected by the cooperative’s Scientific Divers (OSS). Students will literally have the opportunity to touch and closely observe numerous groups of marine invertebrates, some of which will already have been seen in the educational collection. This will make it easier to understand their biology, anatomy and ecological features, while also exploring curiosities and surprising traits of certain species.
Students will also carry out group activities for biocoenotic surveying. Using simple tools such as a compass and measuring tape, they will develop a biocoenotic map of the coastline. Putting into practice what they have learned at school, and with the support of the cooperative’s marine biologists, students will be able to match the animals and plants living along the marine shoreline, simulating one of the monitoring techniques widely used by marine biologists during underwater surveys: the bathymetric transect.
