The Scientific Divers (OSS) of Pelagosphera manage all phases of work, from experimental design to underwater operations, for monitoring using non-invasive techniques or for sampling aimed at studying benthic communities on both hard and soft bottoms. The cooperative’s marine biologists have a strong biological and taxonomic background and are specialists in key animal groups used to assess the conservation status of coastal marine ecosystems, including molluscs, polychaetes and crustaceans.

The collaborations established over the years allow the cooperative to rely on many sector experts, covering a broad range of expertise from phytobenthos to the full spectrum of Mediterranean marine zoobenthic invertebrates and beyond. The availability of expert ichthyologists also makes it possible to assess fish stocks using visual census methods.
Pelagosphera has carried out numerous projects aimed at assessing biodiversity on mobile substrates and hard-bottom habitats. Public bodies have commissioned the cooperative to map and characterise plant and animal communities in areas of high ecological value, as well as to assess their conservation status in environmentally sensitive areas subject to environmental pressures.

Pelagosphera is able to manage the entire laboratory phase for collected samples, from sorting to taxonomic identification at the lowest possible taxonomic level, providing taxon/sample matrices and producing technical reports together with statistical analyses of the results.
Pelagosphera carries out genetic analyses on biological communities in collaboration with public institutions and prepares technical reports, Preliminary Environmental Studies (SPA - Studi Preliminari Ambientali), and Strategic Environmental Assessments (VAS - Valutazioni Ambientali Strategiche).
